We released a new authenticator: Outlook/MAPI. If you use Outlook email client you are lucky. Outlook provides a programatic interface able to receive and send emails natively from client. That means that if it is properly configured, our client can interface with Outlook, receive the token and respond to the challenge.
This simplifies enormously the task, as it avoids the use of configure any IMAP or SMTP server and passing the passwords in the command line. The only required parameter is the name of the Outlook local Account (not the email or login). This account name is the name of local account.
We hope this new authenticator will make easier the spread of S/MIME certificates!
